Governor Larry Hogan is opening his doors to the public on December 9, the Governor’s Mansion will be open from 1:00 p.m. to 4 p.m.
On December 9, Marylanders will have the chance to visit Governor Larry Hogan’s Mansion. The First Family of Maryland has invited MD families and residents to join Hogan, and his wife Yumi, for a special holiday open house. During the Governor’s free holiday celebration there will be free live holiday music performances and refreshments. Visitors will be able to do some Christmas shopping as well. Holiday ornaments will be on sale at the celebration which will be used towards the maintenance, preservation and repairs of the Mansion. Members of local area garden clubs were commissioned to decorate the house with a holiday wreath in the rotunda and ornaments on the Christmas trees within the house. Lowe’s Bayshore of Stevensville will be providing the decorations for the mansion’s Christmas trees as well.
Mansion guests will be treated to hot servings of Wassail during their visit. Wassail is an old Medieval English mulled Cider previously used in the ritual known as wassailing which superstitiously was believed to ensure that good apple harvests would occur in the following year.
Aside from the delicious Wassail, other refreshments provided the the Government House chefs will include, dessert bars, cookies, and brownies. The evenings live music will be performed by three different Maryland high school groups. Each group will perform during each hour of the event.
Marylanders who have not been to the Governor’s House should consider going as the historic building has been the official home of the Governor of Maryland since 1870 and the Governor himself will be on site. The Governor’s House is in downtown historic Annapolis at State Circle. Nearby also are many shops, boutiques and restaurants, visitors can find free parking in the Calvert Street Garage while space will also be available in other nearby garages located on Main Street.
