Just a few weeks after calling itself the “International House of Burgers,” IHOb is making the switch to its original name — IHOP.
On Monday, July 9, IHOP announced that it had officially changed its name back to the International House of Pancakes after the company pulled one of the greatest publicity stunts of all time by changing its name to promote a new burger menu. (We figured the International House of Burgers wouldn’t last.)

“When we launched our new Ultimate Steakburgers last month, we were blown away by the public’s reaction to our IHOb campaign since, ultimately, it demonstrated how much love there is for the IHOP brand and our pancakes,” Brad Haley, IHOP’s CMO, told Adweek. “Millions and millions of people had a lot of fun ‘blaying’ along with the idea of flipping the ‘P’ in our name to a ‘B’ and guessing what the ‘B’ could be. However, we are, and always will be, the International House of Pancakes.”
So long, IHOb.
In honor of the chain’s 60th anniversary, IHOP said it’s giving away 60-cent short stacks on Tuesday, July 17, between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m.
We’re giving away 60¢ short stacks on July 17 from 7a-7p for IHOP’s 60th birthday. That’s right, IHOP! We’d never turn our back on pancakes (except for that time we faked it to promote our new burgers) pic.twitter.com/KsbkMJhKuf

“That’s right, IHOP! We’d never turn our back on pancakes (except for that time we faked it to promote our new burgers),” the chain posted on Twitter.
The chain may be back to pushing pancakes, but that doesn’t mean “IHOb” is gone forever. According to an IHOP spokeswoman, the chain will still incorporate the term “IHOb” to talk about the restaurant’s burgers this summer.
“We have from the beginning said IHOb was fun, a tongue-in-cheek way to launch our new burgers. It was not a permanent change to the actual IHOP name,” IHOP spokeswoman Stephanie Peterson told CNET, adding that the company plans to use “touches of IHOb” throughout the summer to promote its burgers.
