Approximately 500,000 excited Houston Astros fans turned out for the celebratory World Series parade on Friday, November 3, but their community spirit was heartwarming in more ways than one.

In the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey and its devastating flooding, Houston residents needed the inspiration that the Astros’ World Series championship brought to their city. But when a baseball fan at the celebration parade dropped her hat from the ninth story of a parking garage, the Houston community showed that they’ll work together to overcome all crises — no matter how big or small.

Just watch and listen to those cheers as fans work together to return the lost hat up to its rightful owner … level by painstaking level.

And another perspective …

And one more …

The depth of the heartwarming moment wasn’t lost on anyone. Here’s how Twitter responded:

So what can we learn from this? Well, for starters, there’s still good in the world. In spite of the devastating tragedies, natural disasters, and acts of terrorism happening all around us, good still exists. And after all Houston’s been through since Hurricane Harvey hit in August, who better to show us that than they?

Congrats to the Houston Astros and all their fans! And thanks for restoring our faith in the resiliency and kindness of the human spirit! Hats off to all of you!
