Whatever you do this summer, do not miss the local winery that’ll have you falling head over heels for their amazing wine selection and cozy ambiance!

My husband and I got married at Basignani Winery last year in May. It is a welcoming family-run vineyard nestled in the green rolling hills of Sparks, Maryland. This place offered everything our hearts desired: a gorgeous backdrop, a quiet and remote location for a private celebration, and unlimited wine of the highest caliber.

I discovered this vineyard all thanks to my college friend. She brought me along to taste their wines and buy bottles with unique names like “Monkton Moon Delight” and “Marisa Dolce.” Years later, on a date with my then-fiancé, over sweet wine sparkling in the afternoon sun and piping hot pizza, we looked around the vineyard and wondered if they do weddings. The rest is a beautiful history.

The vineyard’s piazza pavilion can be rented out for a private party ideal for an intimate wedding. And by intimate I do mean small – the maximum headcount for an event is 65 people. For some this may be more suitable for a birthday party or a baby shower. But the point is you can live out your dream of a Pinterest-worthy vineyard wedding without breaking the bank or even needing to travel very far.

Wedded-bliss aside, the vineyard offers so much more than that. This hidden gem was started back in 1986 by Lynne and Bert Basignani, who decided to take their love for making award-winning wine one step further. The winery is open pretty much all year long, with breaks for holidays, of course. Tastings and wine sales are available Wednesday through Sunday, 11:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

If you’re a fan of films, select Friday nights throughout the summer are “TGIF Movie Nights.” From 6 to 11 p.m., the vineyard’s lawn transforms into a movie theater complete with popcorn and — you guessed it — more delicious wine. Tickets are $12 and available via the winery’s website. Bring your own blanket or lawn chair. Perfect for a romantic date night under the stars!

One other event of note is the “Harvest Experience” happening on September 8 and 29, 2018. Curious wine aficionados can actually participate in the grape harvesting process. Help pick the grapes, learn how grapes are crushed, and then enjoy a delicious lunch with wine al fresco: all for a fee of $10.45.

Please visit the Basignani Winery webpage for more information on all the wonderful things this place has to offer.
