Resolutions got you anxious? Don’t worry: You can get on board with these!
New Year’s Eve brings about a lot of resolutions, while New Year’s Day can bring a lot of regret! Have you ever been to the gym or the park after the start of the new year and seen a lot of unfamiliar faces? Then, come February, most of those faces have disappeared! Maybe you’re one of those faces? Never fear! Here are five goals you can make and actually achieve this year!
1. Visit Greenbury Point.
This park is sadly underpopulated, but you’ve got to come investigate it this year. The 3.1-mile loop is breathtaking. I remember the first time I ran on it — Between the overgrown brush and wildflowers, and the expansive view of the bay, I almost forgot I was in Maryland. The loop of the trail makes it fun to do the whole thing because you’ll never see the same view twice as you make your way from start to finish. Running, biking, or walking, you’ll get your heart rate up, burn some calories, and get some fresh air.
Nota bene: The Naval Academy closes the trail from time to time to make use of a nearby firing range. Check here for closures!
2. Grab a Groupon.
There are so many fitness Groupons for the Annapolis area. I’ve helped myself to several. Groupon is a great way to try out local gyms or fitness classes at a great discount. The expiration date is usually a long way out, which is perfect! It encourages you to pay a visit to the local class or gym without adding too much pressure. I recommend looking into the Pure Barre class offer or the Annapolis Athletic Club. If you worry about getting bored, just make your way through the Groupon offers to keep your fitness routine varied and exciting.
3. Check out Charm City Run.
One of the cool things about these boutique running stores is that they offer a lot of free fitness programs. Charm City Run Annapolis is doing a free intro to running class with a 5k coach. It’s completely free and caters to new runners or anyone who is interested in taking up the sport.
4. Get to your local library.
Yes, you read that right! The Anne Arundel County Public Library system hosts fitness events at their various branches! For example, the Broadneck branch has a free introductory class for self-defense on January 3. (Learning how to defend myself for free? Count me in!) The branch located at the Westfield Annapolis mall will be hosting Mommy and Me Yoga on January 17 and Kick Up Your Health on January 19. These events are free, and there’s a wide variety for anyone looking to try something new and/or spice up their routine.
The new year means a new start! Take advantage of your clean slate and make some goals. They don’t have to be big or extensive. Small steps forward lead to bigger ones! Good luck, Annapolis! Do you already have fitness resolutions? Let me know in the comments below!
